Lost fever on Geeky Talk

February 1, 2010

For the next four months or so all that will be talked about through the land of television will be the culimination of one of the most original and thought-provoking shows ever.  It’s one of my favourite shows in history, is it my favourite?  We will see when it finishes.  When The Shield finished that had to become my favourite ever show.  It was heartbreaking to see that show end and I feel the same will happen here.

The anticipation is huge and to wait a week for a new episode will be tough.  Predicting how the show will end will just cause my brain to melt.  The whole previous five seasons rides on this, has the journey been the wait?  The final season will prove if this show was just a waste of time or will become what it was always meant to be, television history.

Oh and if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a trailer for season 6, with brand new footage.

Top 5 Best TV Episodes of 2009

December 29, 2009

Alright thing is that I don’t watch every single television show so sorry if your favourite is not on the list.  This is my personal favourite, only one episode per show can make it.  I hope you agree that those selected deserve to be on this list.

5) 24 – 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

The siege on The White House is utterly preposterous but ultimately it’s 24 at it’s best.  We got action that we expect from 24 and it’s not just Jack doing all the hard work, we see Bill and Aaron (well doing his best) kick ass.  A stellar episode from a fantastic season of the show.

4) Torchwood: Children of Earth – Day 4

If someone told me that I would have this on my list at the end of the year, I would have laughed.  I haven’t seen every single episode of Torchwood, what I had seen of the first two seasons was not good.  Children of Earth though was superb, my expectations we low so this five part series really shocked me, it was actually good.  Day 4 is my favourite of the five part series because well the shit really hits the fan.  The final episode is superb but once day 4 finishes, you know that your TV license is well worth it for quality like this.

3) Californication – Mia Culpa

The final episode of season 3 comes full circle from the first ever episode.  That plot thread which has been dangling since and completely forgotten during season 3 comes back to haunt Hank Moody.  His dream of having the perfect life with Karen and Becka in New York is shattered in an instant.  All the women, all the shit he has done in season 3 didn’t compare to his original sin of the show.  Secrets always have a way of coming out, by the end of the episode you feel for Hank.  He never deserved what happened, he might be a prick but a prick that you love.

2) Scrubs – My Finale

This would have been the perfect series finale for the show, instead it has come back for a ninth season and this new show with the same name but is unrecognisable could ruin all what is great about this episode.  This is how you end a show, this is how you write ends for characters.  I still fondly watch that last ten minutes or so of the show and I still get emotional watching it.  There’s not been one comedy show that has ever made me laugh one minute and get cry the next, that was Scrubs at it’s best, it was goofy, it was hysterical but at it’s best, it pulled at the heartstrings.

1) Lost – The Incident

There were many excellent episodes to choose from during season 5 but in retrospect the season finale ‘The Incident’ has to be top.  We get a lot of information during this episode, more so than probably any other episode.  Once that white screen appears you have a sense of finality, you have a sense of what the show is about for the first time ever.  Many could come up with theories on what the show could all mean but ‘The Incident’ gives us key information to fit the final pieces together.  Plus any show that has the balls to end the episode let alone a season like the way they did has to be praised.
