I like to state that these are my personal choices. I do not watch every TV show so if your favourite show isn’t on the list then please don’t complain. Hopefully at least some of you will appreciate my choices.
5) Weeds
The show had a wonderful fourth season and it’s just brilliant at times. This season everything was shuck up with the series relocating for the first time in it’s run. This gave it a fresh take and provided some wonderful storylines. Doug and Andy were both spectacular and provided many laughs. Plus we got to see Mary-Louise Parker naked for the first time in the show. How can you complain about that?
4) Californication
Another showtime series and if my blog was going last year I would have included this on my top 5 TV shows of 2007. It’s only right that this appears here because the quality was sustained and amplified. I adore David Duchovny, I’ve always admired his work and he is exceptional as Hank Moody. I never would have thought that he could create a character that could make me completely forgot about Mulder. Though it’s not just him that makes this show, the Runkle’s were outstanding this year and provided me with constant laughs.
3) The Wire
The TV show that many claim is one of the best TV shows ever created. My neighbour Alan Moore (well he only lives a few streets away) stated that The Wire is the best TV show to be created in the past twenty years. I agree that in terms of voting for the best, The Wire should always be in the top 5. Though it would never be my favourite and this is about 2008. Yes this year I watched all five seasons of the show but this is about 2008 and I have to judge it on the fifth season which aired this year. The fifth season isn’t the strongest but it’s still exceptional. I’m hoping the legacy of the show continues, finding new fans everyday because the show deserves to be credited for it’s brilliance.
2) Lost
I can’t get enough of Lost. There’s a lot about it that appeals to me. I’ve never once had a bad word to say about the show. (well not about the quality of the show anyway) I love the mystery behind it all, I love trying to come up with theories. It’s a show that keeps your brain working and that’s what I admire about it. The fourth season was exceptional. I think even naysayers will agree that the past season saw the quality improve. The shorter amount of episodes improved the structure of the whole thing. Which meant a lot less filler to contend with. Now with the end date of the show set, the writers are answering the questions that we seek the most.
1) The Shield
There was no question that this had to be number one. Any list of the best TV shows of 2008 then this will have to be number one on every single one. If it ain’t, it means that person has not seen season seven. For many weeks I have wrote my reviews, excitedly spoken about my love for the characters, the acting. For my readers, you’ll know my appreciation for the show. No other show this year comes close to the level of writing and acting which was displayed during the final season. 2008 in television belongs to The Shield. Thank you for showing people that TV can be a medium for excellence.
