Character Profiles – Vincent (Lost)

Am I insane?  Well I will tell you that I am not.  Vincent is a dog but he is one of the best dogs in any TV show ever.  Imagine all the things he has seen in his 108 plus days on the island and now the poor pooch is skipping through time with the rest.

Vincent – Lost (Season 1 – Present, Season 5)

Career

Dogs don’t have jobs.

(Information provided by common knowledge)

Before the crash of 815, Vincent (who is a yellow Labrador retriever) belonged to Brian Porter who was the adoptive father of Walt.  When Walt’s mother died, Brain wanted Michael to take Walt.  Michael decided to take Vincent without Brian’s permission and told Walt that Vincent was a gift from Brian to him.  Once Oceanic 815 crashed on the island, Vincent had a blast.  He was free to roam everywhere.  Michael tried to look for him because Walt was worried.  He was then found and spent most of the first season around Walt.

When Walt left with Michael on the raft, Shannon was given the duty of looking after Vincent.  Shannon then died, then he became friends with Ana Lucia, who then was killed.  Vincent got up to all sorts of behaviour by tempting Charlie with Virgin Mary statues filled with heroin and dropping off a rotting arm.  He even tried to warn the fellow Losties that Paulo and Nikki were still alive, thankfully the survivors ignored poor Vincent.

During the end of season 3 and beginning of 4, Vincent took allegiance with Hurley and Claire and followed them when they went to the barracks.  Sadly Vincent was used as a decoy for Charlotte’s becon and went back to the beach to make up the numbers in Jack’s group.

We are now in season 5 and Vincent is having more fun.  He is time traveling like everyone else.  He was last seen in the episode “The Lie” running away from the flaming arrows with everybody else.  Hopefully he survived that onslaught and is hopping through time.  Is Vincent the island’s first time traveling dog?  Will he encounter himself in the jungle?  Where is Vincent right now?  I hope he’s safe, hopefully he’s with Rose and Bernard.

Heroes Volume 4 Promo

Here is a promo for what is episode 14 of season 3 called A Clear and Present Danger.  Heroes returns February 2nd in what will be volume 4, entitled Fugitives.

From the look of the promo, it does seem interesting and it’s got my attention.  The news that the characters will be working together is sweet to my ears.

Character Profiles – Desmond Hume (Lost)

Lost is back and for that, my year just got better.  So to celebrate, it’s time for a look into one of the most complex and most intriguing characters within the show.

Desmond Hume – Lost (Season 2 – Present, Season 5)

Career

Royal Scots Regiment Lance Corporal.

Former set designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Former Monk.

(Information provided by Lostpedia)

Desmond was introduced in the first episode of season 2 in one of the most memorable scenes in the history of the show.  This mysterious figure waking up, making breakfast and doing anything else a normal person does with his day.  We quickly discovered this man was living inside the hatch that the losties found.  By the end of the episode we discovered that Jack had met Desmond before he crashed on the island.

It wasn’t until the end of season 2 until we saw Desmond once again.  Locke convinced him to make sure the button in the hatch wasn’t pushed.  Once Desmond found out that not pushing the button was a bad thing, he used the fail safe key which blew up the hatch and did something extraordinary to Desmond.  He went back in time and he began to see flashes of the future.  From that moment, Desmond became one of the most interesting characters of the show.  Someone who was going to be very important to the core of the show.

He quickly became my favourite character of the show during the third season.  It’s down to the noble nature of the character and mainly by the wonderful acting by Henry Ian Cusick.  Him and Penny are the true romance on the show, a couple that I hope by the end of the show, get a happy ending.

As the show is progressing, it’s obvious that his character will not just be of one who witnesses these strange things, like most of the key characters from Oceanic 815 but he’s one which is integral to the explanation of the show.

From the first two episodes of season 5, we only got a brief glimpse of our man Desmond but as Daniel mentioned, he’s someone who’s special.  Isn’t that right brother.
