It’s Friday and Quantum of Solace has been released here in the UK. Sadly I am not seeing it today but will be watching it on Sunday. Expect a review Monday night (UK time).
Remember these lists are my personal favourites, so don’t get mad if you disagree. These are my top 7 favourite Bond films, everyone has a different opinion when it comes to the best Bond film and mine sure is different. The list will go from 001 to 007, with 007 being the best.
001 – Goldfinger
This would probably be most people’s first choice as the best Bond film but not mine. I adore Goldfinger, it set the benchmark for every film afterwards. It’s the staple of what a true Bond film should contain. Great plot. Fantastic bad guys. A fucking Aston Martin with ejector seat. There is nothing not to love about Goldfinger but I was born in 85 so my appreciation for it is not as much as some others.
002 – On
Her Majesty’s Secret Service
This film devides people and I have no idea why. I can understand the criticisms of Lazenby as Bond even though I think he did a great job. The final scene is enough justification for him to have had that part. OHMSS is one of the best Bond films and I feel that if Connery was Bond then this would easily be favourite among most Bond fans.
003 – Goldeneye

Introduced us to Pierce Brosnan who did a fantastic job as being Bond. This brought Bond into the nineties and reinvented the character once again. The film really delves deep into what Bond is like as a character, which is why I like it so much. It’s no where near perfect but it’s a truly masterful film that we haven’t seen been matched since.
004 – Live and Let Die

We’re once again introduced to a new Bond, Roger Moore. Moore was the Bond I grew up with and you probably are wondering, considering I was born in 85, why is Moore the Bond I grew up with? Well his films were always on television and this was the only way to see James Bond films. What I like about Live and Let Die is that is goes against the type, it’s a much smaller story about drug trafficking. This is a blaxploitation film and I like it for that reason.
005 – The Spy Who Loved Me

Certainly the best Moore film, it has everything you need. Amazing gadgets, hot woman, great villains and lots of breathtaking action. That opening ski sequence is enough for this to be on any top list of best Bond.
006 – Licence To Kill
I can hear you people saying, Licence To Kill? Yes I’m being serious and I know this film is disregarded by many people but you are all wrong, this film is criminally underrated. This is the Bond that most reflects what Ian Fleming originally wrote. Bond is not invincible, he bleeds, he hurts, he is human after all and this film portrayed the real Bond. Say what you want about Dalton but I think he’s a superb Bond, a long time before Craig was doing the whole realistic Bond take, Dalton was showing audiences what the character truly should was like. The film is violent and unrelenting, it’s like Die Hard but with Bond.
007 – You Only Live Twice

My personal favourite by miles, I have so much love for You Only Live Twice it’s unbelievable. I love Japan and the setting elevates the film beyond anything before or since. The Bond franchise has always been renown for great locations but Japan was a brilliant place to set a Bond film. Plus it has one of the best final acts in any film, the whole attack on Blofeld’s Volcano base is immense. Action at it’s finest, this was 1967 and that scene still holds up today and even rivals action scenes of today, truly magnificent.
